Where Foreigners Can Buy Property in Abu Dhabi

1 May 20261 min read
The brief

Freehold ownership for international buyers is concentrated in Abu Dhabi’s designated investment zones. Here is where, and what it means.

Index 01

Foreign nationals can own freehold property in Abu Dhabi within designated investment zones, where you hold full ownership of the unit and the land it sits on. The most active zones for international buyers include Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, Al Reem Island, Al Maryah Island, Al Raha Beach, Masdar City, Al Reeman and Hudayriyat Island.

Index 02

Freehold differs from leasehold and usufruct arrangements that exist elsewhere in the emirate. Within the investment zones, freehold gives you the strongest form of ownership, the right to sell, lease or pass on the property, and eligibility to register the title in your name with the Abu Dhabi authorities.

Index 03

Before you commit, confirm the zone, the developer’s track record and the handover terms. Our consultants verify each of these and represent your interest through to registration.
